Sustainability and Sports Unite in the Solidarity Circle Project

2

The International Active Cities Association has successfully completed the “Sustainable Physical Activity Programs” activity under the ESC30 project “Solidarity Circle: Volunteering Hands in Sports” (Project Code: 2024-3-TR01-ESC30-SOL-000276733). This two-stage event series focused on the profound impact of solidarity on sustainable living.

Knowledge Sharing and Interactive Evaluation on Digital Platforms The first phase of the activity commenced with online presentations conducted by expert trainers. These sessions delved into sustainable development goals, the role of solidarity in collective efforts, and environmental sustainability in great detail.

Following the theoretical sessions, participants engaged in an interactive knowledge competition (Kahoot) designed to foster cooperation and solidarity.

  • Scope: A 20-question evaluation was conducted, covering topics such as EU goals, Youthpass, volunteering, and green nature.
  • Solidarity-Oriented Gameplay: Participants demonstrated a collective learning process rather than seeking individual success by utilizing “joker” rights, which allowed them to receive assistance from one another while answering questions.
  • Future Planning: At the conclusion of the competition, an exchange of ideas took place to determine the indoor sports branches that participants were most interested in, leading to the planning of the subsequent physical activity program.

On-Field Action and Nature-Friendly Awards Following the planning phase on the digital platform, the activities transitioned to the sports field. A sports tournament, organized in the specific branches selected by the participants, was carried out with high energy and sportsmanship.

The most remarkable feature of the event was the “Everyone and Nature Wins” award system:

  • Winning Teams: To crown their success, winning teams were rewarded with tree seeds and seedlings.
  • Participating Teams: In this system where there were no losers, other participants were assigned the responsibility of monitoring and caring for these seedlings, thereby fostering a collective sense of duty toward nature.

Through this activity, while young people became accustomed to a life full of active physical movement in a spirit of solidarity, they also took a concrete step toward a sustainable world.
