EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK is the European Commission’s branded event on sustainable urban mobility, celebrated from September 16-22 since 2002.
European Mobility Week is a joint initiative that brings together all decision-makers of cities to unite and support active mobility, inviting municipalities and urban communities to take measures related to transportation.
This joint initiative aims to;
- Raising awareness of sustainable transport,
- to provide a solution to traffic congestion,
- improve air quality and make cities more livable,
- Its mission is to promote environmentally friendly transportation.
The 2023 theme of the campaign, which was carried out in 2022 with the theme “Better Connections”, has been set as “Explore Your City – Save Your Future Energy!”. Today, saving energy through sustainable urban mobility has gained importance due to scarce resources and rising transportation costs. Operating public transport continues to be a high cost for city budgets; reducing this cost through energy efficient transport aims to raise awareness by organizing activities to support affordable and sustainable transport infrastructures.
If you want to plan and implement activities within the scope of the European Mobility Week, you should definitely visit the link https://mobilityweek.eu. In order for your activities to be visible, you should create a separate registration for municipalities depending on the legal entity of the structure you represent, and a separate registration if you are a non-governmental organization, business, individual or a school. After the registration process is completed, you need to register the events you plan to organize on the directed page. The only thing left to do is to implement the events and announce them on corporate social media accounts… When sharing your events on digital media, publishing the determined themes with the # tag, and tagging Mobility Week and Mobilitiy WeekTR social media accounts are beneficial for visibility.
When the European Mobility Week is completed, you can apply for the “European Mobility Week Award” for Local Authorities and the “Mobility Action Award” for civil society organizations, businesses, citizen initiatives, educational institutions and municipalities that promote sustainable mobility throughout the year within the application date range announced on the link https://mobilityweek.eu. European Mobility Week events in Turkey are organized under the coordination of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey with the funding of the EU delegation. If you are a local government member of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey, you can organize your activities under the coordination of the Union with the funding of the EU Delegation. What did we, as Active Cities, do for 2023 European Mobility Week?
We followed and participated in live broadcasts on Mobility Week and Mobilitiy WeekTR accounts throughout the week. On 18 September 2023, we organized a canoeing event for Istanbul residents who lead sedentary lives.
On September 19, 2023, we organized a cycling and trekking event at Florya Beach with the theme Discover Your City, Save Your Future Energy. We preferred public transportation and walking for all the activities we did.
